Easter eggs - mission natural dye

How to dye eggs for Easter with natural products?

This year easter could be more eco-friendly and we can try to spare our bodies from the chemicals, which are added to the paint in the stores.  If you have some leftovers of fruit and vegetables, don’t throw them away! Have you heard of more natural and healthy ways to dye your eggs? Maybe you know from your grandmother about dyeing with onion peels, but will introduce you more! Before that, it is good to know you have to use white eggs, not brownish ones, because the colors from natural products are fade, and you might not get the color you want. Most important is the natural shine they have.

  1. Onion peels - for yellow

Maybe your grandmother has tried this - the color you get is yellow. Boil the eggs with the peel. Don’t forget to add 1 soup spoon vinegar.

2. Beetroot or red onion - for red

Chop two middle sized beetroots or red onion and boil them in 1,5 liters water for one hour. after that let it cool for 5-10 minutes, add 1 teaspoon salt, 3 soup spoons of vinegar and dip the eggs in. Leave them for one hour.

3. Spinach leaves - for green

Boil 1 kg spinach in 2 litres of water, until the water turns green. Then remove the spinach, add 3 soup spoons of vinegar and dip the eggs for 30 minutes.

4. Red cabbage  - for light blue

Take a middle size red cabbage and chop it. Pour 2 litres of water, add 3 soup spoons of vinegar and 1 teaspoon salt. Let it boil for 30 minutes. Dip in the already boiled eggs in the dye for 20-30 minutes.

5. Red wine - for dark blue

Boil the eggs with wine and water (1:1). Add again 3 soup spoons of vinegar and 1 teaspoon salt. Boil until the eggs are cooked and you get the wanted color.

6. Blueberry - for purple

Press  250g blueberries with 1 soup spoon vinegar. Place the boiled eggs in the squash for 30 minutes.
